In this presentation, I will discuss the Elder Abuse Act; documented cases of financial elder abuse by conservators; the procedural safeguards and shortcomings of current law to combat financial elder abuse; the Britney Spears conservatorship case; the new conservatorship law (AB 1194) that will become effective January 1, 2022; and some practical suggestions for attorneys and fiduciaries in advising clients on how to prevent financial elder abuse.
