April Meeting
Transfer Tax Update
Speaker
John Prokey, Partner - Ramsbacher Prokey Leonard LLP, San Jose, CA
Summary
This program will review some of the most relevant transfer tax developments in the past year. The countdown to 2026 continues with less than 2 years remaining for taxpayers to use their full lifetime transfer tax exemptions (unless we have a law change). In 2023 and coming into 2024, we see several changes and clarifications to the tax laws affecting estate planning, including targeted law changes (goodbye WINGs, DINGs and NINGs for California residents), targeted guidance from IRS (IDGTs and basis adjustments at death), and targeted guidance from the courts (corporate owned life insurance, personal estate tax liability, money spent to sell a home, etc). Finally, in the digital age we are reminded that 11 seconds late for a filing, is well…late.
